Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month & Supporting Students on Their Path to Graduation

At Indiana Gateway Alternative School (INGAS), we provide an inclusive, supportive environment where students from all backgrounds can succeed academically and earn their diplomas. Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, gives us the opportunity to honor the vibrant history and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans while reinforcing the importance of embracing diversity in education. This celebration highlights our ongoing commitment to helping all students, regardless of ethnicity or heritage, stay on track to graduate and prepare for their future careers.

Why We Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

This began as a week-long celebration in 1968 and was expanded to a month in 1988 to recognize the invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. The dates of the celebration coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile.

At INGAS, we take this time to:

2. Celebrate the diverse cultures within our school community.
