Test Day Confidence Tips for Students at INGAS
Online testing is a normal part of virtual learning, but it can cause stress for students and families. At Indiana Gateway Alternative School, we believe confidence grows when students feel supported at home and school. These test day tips are designed to help students across all grade levels feel ready and relaxed.
Prepare the Night Before
Preparation helps reduce last minute stress.
- Log in early to check technology
- Charge devices fully
- Review schedules and instructions
- Get a good night of sleep
A calm morning starts with a prepared evening.
Start Test Day With Healthy Habits
Simple habits can improve focus and mood.
- Eat a balanced breakfast: Protein, Fruit/Veggie, Grain & Dairy
- Drink water (At least 80oz/day!)
- Take a short walk or stretch
Even small routines can make a big difference.
Break the Test Into Steps
Encourage students to focus on one question at a time. Younger students may benefit from short breaks, while older students can practice pacing themselves.
Remind students that it is okay to pause and breathe.
Normalize Mistakes and Learning
Help students understand that tests are just one way to show learning. Mistakes are part of growth, not failure. This mindset reduces pressure and builds resilience.
Stay Connected With Teachers
Teachers at INGAS are partners in student success. Families should feel comfortable reaching out with questions about testing expectations or accommodations.
When Anxiety Persists
If anxiety continues, school counselors and academic support teams can provide strategies tailored to each student’s needs.
Reach Out For Support
If test anxiety feels overwhelming, students and families should contact teachers, counselors, or academic support staff at INGAS.
We believe every student can succeed. With strong routines, encouragement, and support, test taking anxiety does not have to stand in the way of learning. If you are in search of more help, feel free to reach out to a trusted teacher or admin.
