How Online High School Works
Who can attend?
The Indiana Gateway Alternative School (INGAS) high school program serves students in grades 9–12 who reside in Indiana.
What are the costs?
Because INGAS is part of the public school system, it’s tuition-free. We provide licensed teachers and instructional materials.* Our enrollment consultants can help address your technology and computer questions and needs.
Expectations for Completing Schoolwork
At INGAS, student learning and academic growth are paramount. We offer a high level of flexibility, and our learning structure helps to ensure students are not overwhelmed. Students can work at their own pace, based on their own schedule, and choose to take just one class at a time. Students can also test out of a course by passing the semester final, enabling them to move on to the next course.
Our high school program uses a quarterly-based approach where students earn points to achieve a passing grade on their assignments and online lessons. The points are cumulative, and once students have reached their desired grade, they can move on. Due dates are assigned to lessons to encourage consistent, steady progress for academic success.
Working With Your Teacher
Homeroom teachers provide individual check-ins via online synchronous sessions. These are the only real-time meetings that are mandatory for INGAS students. Recorded “Class Connect” online teaching sessions are available for students so they can learn on their schedule. Students are encouraged to engage with the Class Connects material and, if they choose to take career-focused courses, will need to view those Class Connects at specific designated times.
Time Commitment
Attendance is logged Monday through Friday; however, academic progress can be achieved during the weekends as well. INGAS students are required to spend 3 hours per day, for a weekly total of 15 hours.
Email is the primary form of communication between the school and families. Learning Coaches and students are required to check and respond to emails on a daily basis.
State Testing
Families enrolling at INGAS must be willing to participate in all required program areas.
